This phrase is used for an expression of resignation. That no matter what  a person does, it still does not work out. If you are good but the other person turns out to be a half baked Jackass!! You life runs smoothly, but the other person, for some unknown reason dies.The Malaysian scene is full of incidents like this- tragic road accidents ,victims of crime or sickness.He loves the person, but the other person behaves like "kera kena belacan" and divorces him!! Looks like fate is against this person. Tiada nasib.Just too bad!!! Maybe kena mandi bunga-lah!! VJ

This proverb is rather difficult to interpret because it is laced with innuendoes.This means the original meaning is hidden and only known to the speaker. But he let's the hearing crowd angle this proverb their own way.Only 2 words gives us a clue, smoke and flames.But the main difficulty in interpreting this saying is the word-" flames?"

What kind of flames is the writer hinting at? Flames of love? Flames of hatred? Envy, jealousy or anger??? I really don't know. But the important point to note here is that peoples faces usually don't betray their hearts.
